If the length of a rectangular field is increased by 20% and the breadth is reduced by 20%, the area of the rectangle will be 192 m2. What is the area of the original rectangle ?

(a) 184 m2
(b) 196 m2
(c) 198 m2
(d) 200 m2

Answer:(d) 200 m2

Let the length and breadth of the original rectangle be L m and B m respectively.

After increasing the length by 20% and decreasing breadth by 20% area is 192

(1.2 L) X (0.8 B) = 192

or 0.96 LB = 192

LB = 200

456 X 456 – 302 X 302

(a) 128734
(b) 118564
(c) 116732
(d) 127856

Answer: (c) 116732

=456 X 456 – 302 X 302

=(456)2 – (302)2

=(456+302) – (456-302) Formula [a2 – b2=(a+b)(a-b)]

=758 X 154

=116732

The sum of three consecutive numbers is 93. The greatest among these three numbers is

(a) 27

(b) 28

(c) 30

(d) 32

Answer: (d) 32

Let the three numbers are x, x+1 and x+2

Then x+(x+1)+(x+2)=93

3x=90

x=30

Greater Number=(x+2)=32

The length of the bridge, which a train 130 metres long and travelling at 45 km/hr can cross in 30 seconds, is:

A. 200 m
B. 225 m
C. 245 m
D. 250 m

Answer: Option C

Explanation:

Speed = 45 x 5 m/sec = 25 m/sec.
18 2

Time = 30 sec.

Let the length of bridge be x metres.

Then, 130 + x = 25
30 2

 2(130 + x) = 750

 x = 245 m.

A train running at the speed of 60 km/hr crosses a pole in 9 seconds. What is the length of the train?

A. 45 km/hr
B. 50 km/hr
C. 54 km/hr
D. 55 km/hr

Answer: Option B

Explanation:

Speed of the train relative to man = 125 m/sec
10
   = 25 m/sec.
2
   = 25 x 18 km/hr
2 5

= 45 km/hr.

Let the speed of the train be x km/hr. Then, relative speed = (x – 5) km/hr.

 x – 5 = 45          x = 50 km/hr.
